The Bambino signs on for "Babe Comes Home" during his greatest season!

1927 Babe Ruth Signed Acting Contract, PSA/DNA Gem Mint 10 (both signatures). Was it love, or chewing tobacco, that made a hero of the slugger Dugan? This was the ultimate question posed by the 1927 silent movie blockbuster "Babe Comes Home," widely considered the finest silver screen effort put forth by the eponymous star. It reports the tale of of Babe Dugan, a hard-slugging minor leaguer whose sloppy chewing tobacco habit confounds team laundress Vernie, played by Swedish beauty Anna Q Nilsson. But frustration quickly blossoms into love and a subsequent engagement, until another argument over Babe's habit sinks the wedding plans. A heartbroken Dugan slumps terribly in the aftermath, but hits a game-winning homer in a crucial contest after Vernie tosses him a plug from the stands.

The presented single-page contract, typed on "First National Productions Corporation" letterhead assigns a salary of $25,000 to Ruth for three weeks "to play the part of 'Dusty Dugan' in our forthcoming picture entitled 'Lily of the Laundry," though the producers would wisely alter details to capitalize on the marketing power of Ruth's nickname. Ruth consents to the terms with a flawless "George Herman Ruth" signature at the bottom of the page, joined by the signatures of a studio representative, and of his famous agent Christy Walsh.

General storage wear is evident, with staple holes at upper left corner, but otherwise no faults of note. Also here is a second typed contract releasing Ruth from a vaudeville performance contract in order to work on the film in question. Walsh signs as himself, and secretarially for Ruth.

Babe Ruth's 1927 is widely considered one of the greatest seasons ever rendered in the history of American sport, thus any relic bearing that special vintage carries enormous significance for Ruth collectors. The appeal is only amplified by the rare and coveted "George Herman Ruth" signature variation applied to this contract, and by the nature of the contract itself, a key mile marker in Ruth's ascent to the pinnacle of global celebrity. Full Grading LOA from PSA/DNA, Gem Mint 10 (both signatures).
