    Description

1927 "Babe Comes Home" One Sheet Movie Poster. One of just two known surviving examples, this gorgeous stone lithograph poster made hobby headlines in 2003 when it realized $138,000 in a Heritage Movie Posters auction, easily establishing it as the most valuable movie poster on earth. And of course it should be! In every regard, this stunning rarity earns the highest possible marks. Issued to promote the May 22, 1927 release of this sixty minute silent feature, the poster dates to the greatest season in Babe Ruth's (and the New York Yankees') glorious history. Visually, the film's star takes center stage, rendered with masterful artistry so wonderfully illustrative of the Golden Age of Sport. No other poster would seem to combine the graphics, ideal size (27x41"), prominence of Babe Ruth's image, condition, and rarity of the presently offered one sheet. Due to the fragile nature of vintage posters, this example has been professionally conserved and mounted on Japanese Masa paper and linen with the strictest archival materials used today. Though very little work was needed on this piece it was decided to gently preserve it for at least another hundred years or more. It presents in stunning NRMT condition today. The only other copy of this marvelous poster has been in a private collection for over twenty years and probably will not see the light of day anytime soon. An absolute dream piece for the advanced Ruth collector, and one that would singlehandedly elevate him to elite status in the hobby hierarchy.
