Description

1926 National League Golden Jubilee Souvenir Baseball Set. The fiftieth anniversary of the Senior Circuit was met with appropriate pomp and circumstance, with a spectacular array of baseball legends congregating at Manhattan's Hotel Astor on Groundhog's Day of 1926. Attendees found boxes such as the presented model awaiting them at their banquet tables, golden cardboard containers lined with blue velvet and holding a pair of ONL (Heydler) spheres. The balls--one blank, the other bearing photographic images of all National League presidents--exhibit only light toning to suggest nine decades of existence, while the box, emblazoned on the lid with the words, "Golden Jubilee, National League, Feb. 2, 1926," exhibits typical storage wear with split seams and some material loss. A special memento from one of the most glamorous evenings of pre-war American sports history.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
