1925 Christy Mathewson Signed Check. Important relic bears witness to Matty's final spring training journey, as he would ultimately succumb in October 1925 to the chronic respiratory ailments that haunted him since accidentally exposure to mustard gas during a WWI training exercise. The "March 26, 1925" personal check is made out to the "Hotel Soreno," popular lodging for players and staffers of teams headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida. All writing, and the Hall of Fame hurler's signature, is applied in 9+/10 black fountain pen ink. Some minor staining affects the obverse, and the check is trimmed at the edges, but the ink remains spectacularly bold. Verso bears standard bank stamping. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Encapsulated "Authentic" by JSA/Beckett.
