Description

1924 Christy Mathewson Signed Letter. Just over a year before his passing at the tragically young age of forty-five, the legendary right-hander mailed this brief correspondence upon Boston Braves team letterhead to a prospect objecting to the salary proposed by the club. "You say in your letter of January 31st that you do not think that $3,000 is a fair salary for you this year. We think that the increase is a very material one and the offer is the best that we can make you," he writes, in part. The gorgeous, flowing "C. Mathewson" closing signature rates a conservative 9/10, and the page exhibits original mailing folds and a mild crease near the left edge well clear of the autograph. A splendid example of one of the most sought after Hall of Fame signatures in the hobby. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
