    Description

1924 Baseball World Tour Team Signed Ship's Menus Lot of 2. Though the 1934 Tour of Japan remains the most famous of foreign excursions in the history of our national pastime, it was preceded not only by a 1931 Japan trip but also by two voyages to Europe and beyond orchestrated by Chicago White Sox owner Charles Comiskey. Here we encounter a pair of rare artifacts from the second of these two tours, again a pairing of Comiskey's own team and that of his good friend John McGraw.

Two "S.S. Leviathan" dinner menus from November 30, 1924 are on offer, signed by a total of twenty-one baseball tourists. Most notable are the rare and desirable autographs of Hall of Fame managers John McGraw and Hughie Jennings, but the Cooperstown credentials continue with Frank Frisch, Dave Bancroft, Ted Lyons and Travis Jackson. We're also particularly fond of the autograph of Charlie Robertson, who signs with a nickname referencing his perfect game two years earlier: "No Hit Robertson." All autographs are applied in 8/10 or better black fountain pen ink. Menus show moderate handling/storage wear, but only a single minor signature is affected. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
