1923 Hilldale Giants Eastern Colored League Championship Belt Buckle. Hall of Famer Pop Lloyd served as captain of this pennant-winning powerhouse, leading the team to a 32-17 record with such fellow Cooperstown immortals as Judy Johnson, Biz Mackey and Louis Santop. Even the most casual baseball historian knows that Negro League documentation tends to be spotty at best, and the vast majority of its artifacts lost to history, so we present this piece with the acknowledgment that we can't offer up much beyond that which you can see with your own eyes.

The enameled crest affixed to an otherwise nondescript metal backing appears both vintage and of significant quality, and we're confident it is no modern contrivance. A buckle of a different format but the same basic design appears on the Baseball Hall of Fame website--Google "1923 Hilldale buckle" to find it. This one measures approximately 3.5x4.75". General handling and storage wear is evident, but condition is well within acceptable parameters.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
