    Description

1923 Christy Mathewson New York Giants Silver Season Pass. The two-time defending World Series champions celebrated a third straight National League pennant this season, to the surprise of few, with a Hall of Famers packed roster featuring the likes of Kelly, Frisch, Bancroft, Youngs, Jackson, Stengel, Wilson and Terry.

This very badge afforded the great Christy Mathewson and his wife Jane entry to the uptown Manhattan baseball palace during the Giants 1923 pennant season. The obverse announces, "Giants, Worlds Champions, 1921-1922, Chas.H. Stoneham, Pres," with verso engraved "213 Mr. & Mrs. C. Mathewson 1923" plus "Lambert Bros, Sterling."

With his grave illness preventing him from fulfilling his daily coaching duties with the Giants after the 1921 season, Matty bought the Boston Braves with Emil Fuchs and James McDonough in 1922, and then shuffled off this mortal coil in late 1925. Very minor edge wear cannot override the NRMT appearance or the enduring historical significance of its original owner.
