    1923 Charles Ebbets Signed Letter.

UPDATE: Please note that this is Charles Ebbets, Jr., the son of the team owner.

The surname was immortalized through its attachment to the home ballpark of the beloved Brooklyn Dodgers, but one rarely sees an autograph from Charles Hercules Ebbets, who became team owner in 1905 and passed away twenty years later. Here he writes to the president of an Iowa baseball team regarding his own ticket printing business. The gorgeous Dodgers letterhead bears an artful 9+/10 black fountain pen signature from Ebbets at the close. Original mailing folds are present, along with a small pin hole at upper right and light toning at upper edge resultant from tape affixed to verso, but none of these issues materially diminish aesthetics.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
