Description

1921 Babe Ruth National Game of Baseball. A rare game using two die. On the back is a "sermon" by Reverend Bernard Clausen entitled, "What Babe Ruth Teaches America." After comparing Ruth to ancient Greek sculpture and telling of his orphanhood and generosity, Clausen concludes, "In a world where a man is supposed to wear the proper pin in his vest, or speak the proper pass-word, or have the proper grip, or boast of graduation from the proper college, or wear the proper family name, or possess the proper blue-blood in his veins, before he can be admitted to the ranks of the favored ones, how much we need the lesson of a man who is not ashamed of a terribly poor start, and whose boast is that he made good with his own bare hands." Marvelous photo of Ruth in his pinstriped cap (1920-21 format) on back of playing surface. Playing surface on other side is dominated by the rules of play, determined by the throwing of the dice. When unfolded, board measures 15x19".
