Description

1920 "The Home-Run King" First Edition by Babe Ruth--Finest Example Known! It was arguably the most consequential vintage in the long and glorious history of the New York Yankees franchise, a year that saw the most dominant slugger of all time don his first set of pinstripes. The Babe wears that nifty new uniform on the dust jacket of this rare and important volume, the first that we've encountered in any state of preservation whatsoever. A quick review of the auction archives finds only three offerings in the past twenty years, each copy quite heavily worn and missing the jacket entirely.

The book is actually a work of fiction, clearly ghost-written for Ruth but borrowing heavily from his growing legend in the wake of his fifty-four home run campaign, nearly doubling his own single-season record of twenty-nine. Somehow, this singular specimen remains, quite literally, in nearly pristine condition, without so much as a hint of creasing, tearing or staining. Unquestionably one of the finest baseball books in the hobby, period.
