1920's Spalding Figural "Pitcher" Trophy. Blurring the line between sports collectible and fine sculpture is this dazzling specimen from the popular and highly prized line of figural trophies issued by the celebrated "Spalding" sporting goods company in the 1920's and early 1930's. It's a striking work of art that is marvelously evocative of this special time in our National Pastime. The weighty artifact stands an impressive nineteen and a half inches in height, with some handling wear to the black wooden base and a minor amount of loss to the chrome at the figure's left shoulder and right wrist. Our catalog imagery should properly indicate that the overall visual effect of the piece is barely affected by these expected imperfections, and the rarity of the piece should discourage such quibbling anyhow.
