1914 Federal League Championship Pendant Issued to Member of Indianapolis Hoosiers. A failed experiment that arose as a direct challenge to the perceived monopoly enjoyed by the American and National Leagues, the Federal League was able to woo an impressive roster of the game's top stars into its camp with the promise of higher salaries before drowning in a sea of red ink after just two seasons of existence. Federal League memorabilia remains one of the most challenging collecting subcultures, and here we present a piece certain to draw interest from that intrepid band of hobbyists.

Even in that starkly endangered species, the offered relic distinguishes itself among Federal League relics, an exceedingly rare championship pendant issued to one of the members of the Indianapolis Hoosiers, who finished the 1914 race for the flag one and a half games ahead of the second place Chicago Chi-Feds. Among the notable members of the 1914 champs were Bill McKechnie, Edd Roush, Cy Falkenberg and George Mullin.

This gold and enamel beauty is unengraved, leaving the identity of its recipient a mystery, but nearly all of the small population to surface in the hobby are likewise absent any player attribution, so we suspect these were issued without engraving and left to the players to add such text if desired. Obverse announces, "Champions of the Federal League 1914" with glorious imagery including a mitt, a baseball and crossed bats. Verso features a figural laurel and "14 KT" stamping. Minor wear to the enamel is only apparent upon close inspection, leaving the rare relic to present as NRMT from any reasonable viewing distance.

Dimensions are approximately 1.25" in diameter, with a weight of twenty grams (20 g.).
