1913 Christy Mathewson Related Oversized Advertising Sign. As one of the greats of the game, Christy Mathewson earned the respect of fans and peers alike. As one of the nicest gentlemen in the game, Mathewson was often used by advertisers to pitch their products. Clothing was just one of the many products he pitched, and offered in this lot is a rare survivor. Taken from a garment sample book, this page has samples on one side, and an advertisement on the other. Although the representation is not Mathewson, the suit itself is called the "Mathewson," most likely in honor of the great pitcher. The 16.5x20.5" poster displays excellently with striking lithography. A few small creases are visible in the bottom one inch of the ad, while the rest of the image remains very clean and solid. Matted to 20x24.5" but can easily be removed.
