1913 Baseball World Tour Japanese Rule Book Presented to Charles Comiskey. Though the 1934 Tour of Japan, with its cast of legends like Ruth, Gehrig and Foxx, enjoys status as the most famous of foreign baseball tours, the practice of taking to the high seas with the sport's best was already decades old at that point. Here we encounter a relic from Hall of Fame executive Charles Comiskey's personal collection acquired during his first of two world tours in 1913 and 1924. The Japanese language volume provides only a few words of English, notably "Base Ball Rules" on the cover and a handwritten inscription on inside cover from a representative of a Japanese university representative reading, "To Mr. C.A. Comiskey with best wishes and respect, M. Naoki, Keio Univ, Japan." The 170-page softcover volume exhibits typical handling wear but presents very well and remains solidly bound with damage only to a pair of fold out pages and dampstaining to the cover.

    The Comiskey Collection

It's a name that remains synonymous with Chicago White Sox baseball, and one properly immortalized in Cooperstown bronze. The collection that appears in the lots that follow spans six decades of the team's history, beginning with what may be the earliest ChiSox document in private hands, and continuing on to feature a wide assortment of material from sons J. Louis and Charles A. Comiskey II, who carried on the ownership of the club following their father's passing. Many of the key moments in team history are memorialized, from the team's first World Series appearance in 1906, to the famous World Tour of 1913-14, to the club's eventual sale to another Hall of Fame executive, Bill Veeck, in 1959. All items were stored for decades in the attic of Charles Junior's home before they were acquired by our consignor, and they make their auction debut here.
