Description

    1912 S81 Large Silk Marty O'Toole #87.
Consumers could choose which of the 25 popular baseball players of the day they wanted portrayed on a large 8-1/2" x 7" silk. With names like McGraw, Bender, Baker, Lajoie, Collins, Cobb, Speaker, Mathewson and Walter Johnson few would think to pick a young Marty O'Toole. Just to qualify for a silk required 25 coupons (you only needed 10 coupons for a cabinet card (T3s)) which is why S81's are overall very scarce. The search is well rewarded as they are among the most beautiful display pieces the hobby has to offer. The offered silk looks does show overall age toning with the frame showing on two sides and fraying along the top/bottom borders along with the beginning of fraying near the left side. There are some stains on the reverse, but considering the age, this is a great looking item that has stood the test of time.
