Description

1912 Joe "Iron Man" McGinnity Signed Letter. He worked in an iron foundry owned by his wife's family during the offseason, but Joe McGinnity's famous nickname took on a greater meaning as he established himself as the most durable arm in professional baseball. McGinnity became famous for pitching both halves of three doubleheaders, wining all six games in the process. In 1904 he led the N.L. with thirty-five wins, .814 winning percentage, a 1.61 ERA, nine shutouts, five saves and 408 innings pitched. He and Matty formed the game's most imposing duo and together they powered the Giants to the 1905 world's championship.

McGinnity pitched professionally until he was fifty-four years old, racking up 246 Major League wins and another 240 in the minors, a professional tally second only to the iconic Cy Young.

Yet despite that unusually lengthy term of service to our National Pastime, McGinnity remains one of the most challenging obstacles for collectors of Hall of Fame autographs.

The second page of a two-page letter is offered for sale here. Typed on stylish "The Newark Base Ball" letterhead with "Joe McGinnity, President" also appearing on the masthead. The content deals with Newark Indian players fined for misconduct in the International League. The first and only Joe McGinnity signed letter we have ever offered for sale deserves due consideration by advanced baseball autograph collectors. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from SGC Authentic.
