1908 Masonic Sword Presented to Addie Joss.
This Hall of Fame ace owns one of the more tragic biographies of Cooperstown residents, averaging an eye-popping 1.89 career ERA through nine seasons of Cleveland Naps service before Tuberculous meningitis took his life just two days after his thirty-first birthday. Today only a small handful of Joss-related items exist in the collecting hobby, most notably the panoramic photograph snapped at the 1911 benefit game played to raise money for his widow, arguably the most desirable image in the full spectrum of the subgenre.

Here we present an exceedingly rare exception to the rule, a Masonic sword presented to Joss and elegantly etched with his name and an ornate design on the blade of the ceremonial forty-inch (40") weapon. The handle is likewise artfully crafted with various Masonic imagery, and the sword remains housed in its original sheath. It survives with only minor tarnishing and a few scattered indications of handling wear.

Our consignor advises us that he purchased it from the great-nephew of the Hall of Fame hurler, and while there is no documentation to substantiate this claim, the piece matches other period examples and is clearly many decades old.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am regarding the sale of my hockey jersey. You were great to work with, you answered all my phone calls and e-mails in a prompt manner, and you did a great job marketing the jersey.
