Description

1908 Charles Comiskey Scrapbook with Comiskey Family Provenance. An early giant of the American pastime, Charles Comiskey had a fifty-year association with the professional baseball. He was the captain of the powerhouse St. Louis Browns, one of the chief architects of the American League, a catalyst behind the first Tour of Japan by Major League players. But it was in his role as the owner of the Chicago White Sox that he is best remembered.

Consigned by a member of the Comiskey family, the "Personal Letters 1908" volume on offer here is packed with hundreds of personal and professional documents, including Comiskey signed document; Chris von der Ahe signed document (von der Ahe was the founder of the St. Louis Cardinals franchise and hired Comiskey as a player and manager. Later in his life, after he lost his wealth, Comiskey sent him money to help him make ends meet); two typed signed letters from Charles Murphy (Cubs owner from 1906 to 1913) to Charles Comiskey on official team letterhead in regard to "rooters' clubs" and the 1908 season; C.C. Spink typed signed letters on "The Sporting News" letterhead; typed letter (file copy) to Giants' president John Brush on "American League Ball Club" letterhead; letter from the mayor of Joliet who writes "I am getting the fever again...I know the White Sox are winners this season and I want to be there."; correspondence regarding insurance policies "...covering your base ball parks."; and letters requesting game tickets, season passes, and even information of where to purchase turnstiles.

Contents exhibit some understandable browning and paper damage consistent with age. Comes with a letter provenance from a member of the Comiskey family. A unique look into Charles Comiskey and the White Sox in 1908. Letter of provenance from the Comiskey family. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (Comiskey). Full LOA from PSA/DNA (von der Ahe).
