    Description

1906 Chicago White Sox Ephemera Lot of 3. In July 1906, St. Louis Browns manager Jimmy McAleer called the Hitless Wonders "the luckiest bunch of ballplayers I have ever run across in baseball. If the team wants a base on balls to win, it gets it; if an error is needed, someone is sure to boot the ball. I never saw or heard of a club that can do as little in the hitting line and get away with it as those Chicago boys. They can score more runs on fewer hits than any other team in either big league."

The Chicago White Sox's catchy moniker was well deserved, as the stats confirm. The starting outfield hit .227, .230 and .248, with the catcher and third baseman averaging .214 and .183, respectively. Still, they defeated their crosstown rivals four games to two to capture the 1906 World Series.

This lot includes: (1) 1906 "Chicago White Stockings" game program, with Nick Altrock pictured on the cover, for contest versus the Detroit Tigers (with Cobb). Partially scored in pencil, the program is creased but intact and presentable. (2) "American League Ball Club Rain Check" ticket with "Chicago American League Ball Club, Charles Comiskey, President" exhibits wear and glue stains on back but intact. (3) 1906 Chico sports scrapbook is loaded with newspaper photos and clippings featuring the diamond stars of the day. Cover chipped. Program and ticket attributed to opening day.
