    Description

1890's Cap Anson Ginger Beer Bottle. While Ty Cobb, the second man in the 3,000 Hit Clubhouse, made a fortune from Coca-Cola, the Club's founder was not quite so successful with his own foray into the carbonated beverage market. In his autobiography A Ball Player's Career, Anson described his ginger beer concoction as "a bit too lively," causing the vast majority of the stock to explode in storage, destroying all but a scant few of the bottles. Here we find one of those rare survivors, measuring seven inches in height. A small divot in the trademark causes little distraction, and considering that most were shattered in the explosion, this relic has no reason to hang its head. From the Roger Marth Collection.
