Description

1888 The Parlor Base Ball Game ("Bostons vs. Chicagos"). Early "pachinko" style game sends a ball down a series of chutes toward a marvelously lithographed playing field with various slots at the bottom that determine the play. "The Fortune Teller" text at the bottom relates to a secondary function of the game, as those slots likewise offer psychic visions including "You will visit Egypt and the Nile" or "Your husband (wife) will be tall and light." A third "Game of Addition" is missing its play card. The baseball aspect is clearly the draw here, and the fantastic period graphics, complete with an underhand pitcher and gloveless fielders, are delightful. Case is hinged for carrying and measures 13x21x1.5" when open. Minimal wear considering the advanced vintage, as our catalog imagery should indicate. Bell is loose but present.
