1888 Dark Town Battery Cast Iron Mechanical Bank. The most popular of all baseball-related mechanical banks, this "Dark Town Battery" cast iron bank measures 10x7.5x2.5" and features a pitcher, catcher and batter in a design that speaks to the pervasive racism of 19th century America. All three characters move when the mechanism is pressed. The pitcher sends the coin flying out of his underhanded pitch to the catcher, who moves his head and hand and opens up a hole to accept the coin. The batter moves his head and raises his bat into the air. All parts of the mechanism work properly and the condition of the bank is Excellent. Minor paint loss, as expected of a 125+ year old bank, is evident, but that is about the extent of the wear and tear on this fantastic 19th century heirloom.
