1879 Boston Base Ball Association Stock Certificate. Fully executed stock certificate for Harry Wright's Boston Red Caps was issued to George B. Appleton, whose involvement as an investor in the team is noted in Harold Kaese's acclaimed book The Boston Braves 1871-1953. Here Appleton purchases a single share in this early National League franchise. The original receipt stub is affixed with an ancient pin on the left side. Flipping the certificate over, we find Appleton's signature and that of a gentleman to whom it was transfered a year later. The entire document measures 5.5x9", and exposes some chipping/fold separation at right side, which causes little problem and does not affect legibility in any way. A very interesting artifact from the infancy of professional ball.
