    Description

1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings Sheet Music. The world's first professional baseball team is honored in song by this exceedingly rare sheet music issued just after the close of the Civil War. While our lack of musical training precludes us from commenting on the tune itself, the serious baseball collector will wish to concentrate on the divine visual artistry of the cover instead. At top center is a stirring portrait of early baseball pioneer Harry Wright, with brother and fellow Hall of Famer George at lower left. Pitcher Asa Brainerd shows off his underhanded pitching form and spectacular facial hair in an action portrait at center.

This is just the second example of this coveted rarity that Heritage has had the privilege to present, and the superior of the pair by a wide margin. A few light spots of toning to the cover are minor considerations at best. Back cover has a few more, and some short edge tears, but these again must be forgiven in light of the approaching sesquicentennial. A gorgeous relic of enormous significance.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
