1867 "Home Run Galop to the Atlantic Club of Chicago" Sheet Music. Dating to just two years after the cessation of hostilities in the American Civil War, this exceptionally rare sheet music represents one of the very first tunes ever crafted in celebration of our burgeoning National Pastime. Though the composition is an instrumental, the name and cover imagery evoke what the absence of lyrics cannot, and we can see a baserunner sprinting toward home as the catcher waits for the throw in the scene beyond the foreground spectators. A handwritten gift dedication appears along the edge near the spine, which presents what is effectively the only degree of wear. The cover offers no such distractions. Unquestionably one of the earliest commercial images of the sport of baseball. Dimensions approximately 10x12.5".
