Description

1867 Constitution and By-Laws of the National Association of Base Ball Players. Rare and massively significant publication is one of the earliest dedicated to our burgeoning national pastime, issued by The National Association of Base Ball Players (NABBP), the very first organization governing the sport. Founded in 1857, the group would be succeeded by the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players in 1871.

The sixty-four pages of text cover the rules of the organization itself and of the game specifically, covering everything from the weight of the ball to the number of bases. An index at back contains the names of players and teams that will be familiar to many members of our clientele, from Henry Chadwick to Excelsior of Brooklyn.

Front cover is detached but present, and bears some period handwriting and the ghost of the image upon a piece of paper against which it had been pressed for decades. Rear cover is missing. All internal pages are present and undamaged. Dimensions are approximately 6x4".
