1866 Book of American Pastimes by Charles A. Peverelly, First Edition. Seminal text was self published by author Charles A. Peverelly and represents one of the most extensive early writings on baseball, with nearly two hundred pages dedicated to the sport he calls "The National Game." The full title mentions the sport prominently: "The Book of American Pastimes Containing a History of the Principal Base Ball, Cricket, Rowing, and Yachting Clubs of the United States." Peverelly provides histories and match results for many of the most prominent teams in the country at the time including the Knickerbockers, the Atlantics, the Excelsiors, the Eckfords, the Gothams, and the Mutuals. Condition is remarkably strong for a volume of such advanced age, with tight binding and none of the staining or tearing common among century and a half-old books.
