    Description

1866 Alexander Cartwright Handwritten & Signed Document. In 1953, the United States Congress officially recognized Alexander Cartwright as the inventor of the modern game of baseball. And while that attribution remains a point of debate among baseball historians, there is no doubting the appeal of any document touched by his hand. This specimen derives from his adopted Hawaiian homeland, and appears to be correspondence between Cartwright (in his role as advisor to the Hawaiian royal family) and D.C. Waterman (the acting consul for Chile). Waterman's signature has been deemed inconclusive by PSA/DNA due to lack of exemplars. The gorgeously hand-scripted document is penned in flowing, black fountain pen on blue writing paper. Signed at the bottom with the most attractive autograph (with 9+ strength) in the Baseball Hall of Fame. For the true baseball historian, a Cartwright is an essential cornerstone in any solid collecting foundation. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
