1864 American Boy's Book of Sports and Games, with Chapter on Base Ball. Those collectors and baseball historians concentrating upon the infancy of our National Pastime will surely find much to love about this hardcover volume which addresses all forms of sport and recreation for youth in the waning days of the American Civil War. Most noteworthy is a ten page chapter addressing the rules, positions and intricacies of this new and uniquely American sport. As one of the very few published works predating the surrender at Appomattox to address the game of baseball, this is an essential volume for the serious hobbyist. Considerable wear must be noted, with some water staining and loosening of the binding, but the book does remain essentially solid and complete, with no problems to the pages addressing baseball. In light of the scarcity, one must forgive such concerns.
