Late 1940's Lou Boudreau Game Worn Cleveland Indians Cap - MVP Era! The best Major League shortstop of the 1940's, Lou Boudreau made his big league debut with the Cleveland Indians at age twenty, was the field leader by twenty-one, and by twenty-four he was named player-manager. In addition to his hard hitting and slick fielding skill set, Boudreau also possessed a high baseball IQ, magnetic charm, and matinee idol looks. In 1944, he won the A.L. batting crown. In 1948, the player-manager led by example, batting .355 with eighteen homers, 106 RBI, and 116 runs scored. His weighty output and astute managerial acumen led the Indians to a World Series championship that season. Lou retired with a lifetime batting average of .295 and eight All-Star selections.

The exemplar being offered here is truly magnificent, both as a Hall of Famers' game worn artifact and for its aesthetic beauty as period headwear. During the late 1940's, the era from which this cap dates, Boudreau was still the best shortstop in the game. Also, this cap could very well have been worn during his MVP and World Series championship season of 1948. The "soft bill" wool cap features a midnight navy blue crown with outer brim, top button, and embroidered "C" all in red. The inner leather headband displays a "Wilson" stamp along with "Boudreau" in killer red chainlink embroidery. In later years, Lou signed the under-bill in NRMT black sharpie. The cap shows wondrous wear but remains completely intact and in stupendous display condition. LOA from Heritage Auctions.Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
