    Description

Circa 1985 Willie Stargell Game Worn Pittsburgh Pirates Cap. "When I played, there were 600 baseball players, and 599 of them loved Willie Stargell. He's the only guy I could have said that about. He never made anybody look bad and he never said anything bad about anybody." -- Joe Morgan

After his Hall of Fame career concluded in 1982 and before his coaching tenue with the Atlanta Braves (1986-88), Willie Stargell served as the Bucs hitting and first base coach in 1985.

The Pittsburgh Pirates pillbox cap offered here dates from that season (or perhaps 1983-84 Spring Training) and features a black nylon exterior with horizonal crown striping, front "P," top button, and "Stargell Star" on the outer brim, all in gold. The inner headband displays "New Era...Pro Model," "7 3/8," and MLB licensing tags and the under-bill features a vintage "8" in faded black marker. The cap shows really nice wear, with extensive soiling and perspiration residue on the inner headband, while remaining in fantastic display condition. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
