Circa 1941 Joe DiMaggio Game Worn & Signed New York Yankees Cap,
MEARS Authentic. Early career gamer matches exemplars from the
last years of the 1930's and earliest years of the 1940's, an era
awash in World Championship glory and such historic events as Lou
Gehrig's "Luckiest Man" farewell in 1939 and, of course, Joltin'
Joe's peerless fifty-six-game hitting streak of 1941. The
embroidered text at interior white leather headband reading, "7 J
DiMaggio" is perfectly consistent with Joe McCarthy and Bill Dickey
caps found in our Permanent Auction Archives. Check Getty Image
#514902912 and you'll see the Yanks celebrating DiMaggio's
record-breaking forty-fifth consecutive hit game in the locker
room, where one of his teammates holds aloft his cap with the white
leather interior headband clearly visible.The "Spalding" brand cap exhibits outstanding game wear, suggesting at least one full season of wear if not more. The visor is wonderfully soft and pliable, and the interior headband stained with sweat and dirt. Underside of visor bears a bold silver sharpie signature from the Hall of Fame outfielder. It's the first DiMaggio game worn cap that Heritage has had the privilege to present to our collecting clientele, and the finest example we've ever encountered. LOA from MEARS, Authentic.
