Description

1985 Cal Ripken, Jr. Game Worn Uniform. "Sometimes when he gets hit by a pitch I'm almost embarrassed to ask him about it," Orioles trainer Richie Bancells once said. "By the time he gets back to the dugout the bruise is gone." Despite a Hall of Fame career that filled a treasure chest with Gold Gloves, Silver Slugger bats and American League MVP trophies, Ripken's legacy will always be his dedication and durability. That sort of character, paired with the aforementioned superstar talent, makes any artifact from his career inspirational, particularly game worn material from his famed Streak. Here we present a full road uniform from the fourth of his fourteen consecutive seasons of perfect attendance, exhibiting the solid wear one would expect from the game's ultimate workhorse. "Orioles 8" is spelled across the chest in orange and black tackle twill, with "Ripken 8" taking up the rear. "Sand-Knit Exclusivity" and size "44" labeling appears in front tail, with swatches sewn in rear interior tail reading "85 * 44, Ripken, 8." Matching pants feature identical "Sand-Knit Exclusivity" tagging inside the waistband with size "34" designation, which bears a markered number "2" indicating the set. Swatches sewn to the left read "85 * 34, 26, Ripken, 8/2." Fine wear is particularly evident in the pants' lining. A special full uniform from "the last of the old time ballplayers." LOA from Lou Lampson.
