1955-57 Hank Aaron Game Worn Milwaukee Braves Cap. One of three Milwaukee Braves caps consigned to this Platinum Night auction by the son of the former owner of West Park Cleaners at 35th and Vliet in Milwaukee in the 1940's and 1950's. That gentleman's lengthy letter of provenance--one will be included with each lot--wistfully recalls sorting Braves uniforms and jackets for cleaning, searching for abandoned tips in the jackets of the Milwaukee County Stadium ushers. Many of the players became personal clients of the cleaning service as well, and the letter identifies Hank Aaron, Warren Spahn, Eddie Mathews, Del Crandall and Lou Burdette among the regulars. Now, over six decades after those childhood brushes with greatness, our consignor has decided to release these exciting treasures to the collecting community.

Aaron's rookie cap, bearing the Boston-based "Horace Partridge" sporting goods label at interior headband, appears in the Main Session of this Platinum Night event. The team switched to "Wilson" caps in 1955, providing the start of the potential three-season span of the piece. The consignor's father would lose his laundry contract with the Braves after their World Championship season of 1957, providing the end date of our lot title.

You'll note that the logo "M" on the cap's crown is stitched white thread here, rather than the white felt of the rookie model, and you'll see Aaron and his teammates wearing this style in the 1957 World Series. With just three seasons of potential wear, the cap offers the thrilling possibility that Hammerin' Hank wore it during that glorious National League MVP and World Championship season.

It exhibits solid wear but no damage, the cardboard insert in the visor unbroken. Interior leather headband bears the aformentioned "Wilson" label and an embroidered "Aaron 7," denoting owner and size. A perfect representation. Letter of provenance from son of Milwaukee laundry owner. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
