    Description

1940's Detroit Tigers Cap. After capturing three consecutive A.L. pennants in the first decade of the twentieth century, spearheaded by the irrepressible talents of one Tyrus Raymond Cobb, the Detroit Tigers went into a funk for a good twenty-five years. While the Depression years of the 1930's and the war years of the 1940's brought financial ruin and death to tens of thousands, for the Detroit franchise the period of 1934-45 signaled a rebirth and return to glory, with four pennants and two world titles. The 1934-35 renditions were particularly endearing, with household names like Cochrane, Greenberg, Gehringer and Goslin.

The pro model Detroit Tigers cap on offer here displays in dark blue felt with the classic gothic "D" embroidered in white. Stitched into the back of the soft and supple white leather headband, which dates the cap to the 1940's, is a fully intact "Spalding" tag. While the neighboring size tag is also intact, its original contents have long since faded from view. Possessing the enviable combination of evident wear and tremendous condition, this cap will stand proud in the displays of even the most prominent collections. While this exemplar doesn't not exhibit any player identification, and thus cannot be definitively characterized as game worn, it is a pro model cap and identical to what the Tigers of the era would have used in games.
