Style was worn during National League MVP & World Championship season of 1933!

1933-35 Carl Hubbell Game Worn New York Giants Cap. Though the orange lettering on solid black cap style is the most recognizable of the New York Giants uniform styles, worn by the club during its final decade in the Big Apple, it was sported during just three of King Carl's sixteen seasons at the Polo Grounds. And what seasons they were!

The potential range of the cap's vintage begins with 1933, a year in which Hubbell led the National League with twenty-three victories, a microscopic 1.66 ERA, ten shutouts and 308.2 innings pitched. He would close out the season with two complete game World Series victories without allowing a single earned run in twenty innings of work. His first of two National League MVP Awards would join his sole World Championship ring in the Hubbell family treasure chest.

Hubbell's 2.30 ERA in 1934 was likewise best in the Senior Circuit, as were his twenty-five complete games and eight saves. His 1934 season is best recalled, of course, for his stunning All-Star Game feat of striking out Ruth, Gehrig, Foxx, Simmons and Cronin in succession, a still-standing Midsummer Classic record for consecutive K's. In both 1934 and 1935, Hubbell's strikeout to walk ratio, better than three to one, paced all National League pitchers.

The cap exhibits strong wear, as one would expect for a period in which Hubbell never pitched fewer than three hundred innings in a season. The black wool hat has mellowed to a greenish hue, and an orange team repair stitches closed a tear at the right side. The entire cap is as soft as suede from action and age, the visor perfectly malleable. Interior leather headband is likewise soft and complete, and bears an ancient embroidered "C. Hubbell" in pale script.

Just a single Carl Hubbell game worn uniform piece appears in our comprehensive database of major auction results, a $48,000 result for his 1937 jersey recorded in 2001. There's every reason to believe that the wait for another opportunity at Hubbell game worn material will be years in coming, so smart bidders should see this opportunity for the exceedingly rare one that it is.
