Description

Circa 1936 Leo Durocher Game Used, Sidewritten Bat (Pepper Martin Professional Model), PSA/DNA GU 8.
He made his Major League debut in the uniform of the 1925 New York Yankees and his last as manager of the Houston Astros almost a half century later. Leo Durocher's playing career took him to St. Louis in 1933 as he joined the Cardinals and Gas House Gang.
Very few game-used bats have survived from the Hall of Famer's career. Here we offer a Hillerich & Bradsby Pepper Martin professional model bat which was used by Durocher - circa 1936. "5-20-36 33 oz Leo Durocher St. Louis Nat'l Lea." is written in vintage grease pencil on the side. The mailing label is still attached to the barrel from when Durocher sent it to the bat manufacturer to use as a template for future models. Heavy use is shown on the lumber (35" and 33.1 ounces) which sports a handle crack. Ball marks still appear on the right, left and back barrel from use and cleat marks are abundant. The handle has three rings, one which is present but not held in-place. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.
