Description

Circa 1935 Hank Greenberg Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8.5. One of just a tiny handful of authentic Hank Greenberg game used bats known to exist, the presented Spalding Model No. 200 bat is practically a mythical creature to the many serious Hall of Fame bat collectors itching for a chance at one. Too often the intense popularity of Greenberg memorabilia is attributed to his Jewish faith, seemingly forgetting the fact that the original Hammerin' Hank led the American league four times in both home runs and runs batted in, and twice claimed the Junior Circuit's MVP Award. The first MVP came during the Detroit Tigers' World Championship season of 1935, the likely year of issue and use of the presented bat. Taube points to Spalding's very limited use of the "Resilite" stamping at lower barrel as a means of establishing vintage, and makes note of a Spalding sidewritten bat at the Louisville Slugger factory to definitively place the brand in Greenberg's arsenal. We find his surname boldly stamped into the barrel, which offers up ball marks, stitch impressions, cleat marks and green bat rack streaks to bear witness to its history. Handle is uncracked. Length of thirty-five inches and weight of thirty-six ounces are correct for Greenberg. A thrilling find in any state, and an absolute treasure as a well-used and preserved specimen. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.5.
