    c. 1980-83 Clint Hurdle Kansas City Royals Game Used Bat.
Selected ninth overall by the Kansas City Royals in the 1975 amateur draft, Clint Hurdle received a $50,000 signing bonus and was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in the spring of 1978 with the caption "This Year's Phenom." While Hurdle never lived up to the billing that the magazine, and his draft position, placed upon him he had his best season in 1980 hitting .294 with 10 home runs. Eventually he found his baseball home in the corner of the dugout, becoming manager of the Colorado Rockies in 2002 and leading the team to its only World Series appearance in 2007. Currently manning the helm in Pittsburgh, Hurdle has wracked up over 1100 wins in his career, and counting.

Offered is a Louisville Slugger Genuine H246 Clint Hurdle model bat, measuring 35" and weighing 32 ounces, the lumber, which has a slight crack in the handle, shows light game usage with a few ball marks scattered throughout the barrel. The knob and endcap are both blank. Width of the Louisville Slugger oval branding dates the bat from 1980 to 1983. Letter of Provenance from Kansas City Royals Batboy.
