    c. 1973-75 Willie Horton Detroit Tigers Game Used Bat.
Willie Horton's legendary status in the Motor City started early, launching home run out of Tiger Stadium in 1958 at the young age of 16 during an all-city high school game. He would sign with the Tigers three years later. Horton took the the majors quickly and sustained his success for 18 seasons, hitting double-digit home runs a dozen times and recording 30 multi-home run games. In a year notorious for the dominance of pitchers, Horton blasted 36 home runs and finished fourth in batting average in the American League while helping propel the Tigers to the World Series title in 1968. In the summer of 2000, he was given the ultimate honor by the Tigers having a statue placed at Comerica Park and ensured his number 23 would never be worn again by a Tigers ballplayer.

Offered is a Louisville Slugger Genuine S21 Willie W. Horton model bat, measuring 35" and weighing 32 ounces, the cracked lumber shows excellent game usage with heavy tarring on the handle that has been partially obscured by a tape job. Knob features the Roman Numerals "XXIII" (his number 23) in black marker while the end cap shows remnants of a number "23" in green marker. Presence of the "®" above the 'D' in "POWERIZED" branding dates the bat from 1973 to 1975. Letter of Provenance from Kansas City Royals Batboy.
