    Description

    c. 1973-75 John Mayberry Kansas City Royals Game Used Bat. A three-sport athlete in high school, John Mayberry was drafted sixth overall by the Houston Astros in the 1967 Major League Baseball Amateur draft. In an effort to cut down on his strikeouts the Astros foolishly attempted to turn Mayberry into a slap hitter, rather than utilize his natural power that allowed him to hit 25 home runs in Double-A. After only 105 games with the big club in Houston he was shipped to Kansas City for Lance Clemons and Jim York. The Royals would immediately begin to reap the benefits with Mayberry earning MVP votes in four of his first five seasons in KC. His six solid season in blue and white were enough to earn him a spot in the Royals Hall of Fame in 1996.

Offered is a Louisville Slugger Genuine John Mayberry S226 model bat, measuring 35.5" and weighing 32 ounces, the cracked lumber shows mild usage bat rack markings on the barrel and end cap. Tape on the upper handle obscures where the crack occurred. Presence of the "®" above the 'D' in "POWERIZED" branding dates the bat from 1973 to 1975. Letter of Provenance from Kansas City Royals Batboy.
