Description
2001 Barry Bonds Game Used & Signed Bat, PSA/DNA Authentic. Aptly named Sam Bat "Rideau Crusher" delivered the sport's Home Run King to baseball immortality, as Barry Bonds set a standard for home run excellence in a single season which will never be equaled. The offered bat is uncracked and shows outstanding use, with ball and stitch marks on all areas of the barrel. Bonds' preferred manner of taping the handle is also in effect here. Sam Bat's unique style of notating all specs by hand on the barrel's end are in place, reading "34," 35 oz, 07 20 01, 2K1, Bonds.," to indicate length, weight, manufacturing date, model number and Bonds' name respectively.According to John Taube's research, because the bat shows the amount of use it does, the bat may have been used in batting practice. Additionally, the 35 oz. weight, in his opinion, indicated the bat was ordered by Bonds primarily for batting practice use.
Taube also revealed the following: "Getty Images has several photos of Bonds during batting practice and the game on September 26, 2001. We've identified the bat as 1 of 2 bats pictured with Bonds at the batting cage. When Bonds is photographed taking BP, he is not using the subject bat, however we cannot dismiss the possible use of the bat during a subsequent BP session. This being said it is common for players to use bats in BP and then during the game. Additionally, the subject bat displays a "rim" of white paint at the top of the barrel that we attribute to a painted home plate or batters box, both of which are covered with a tarp during batting practice. In our opinion, this white rim provides evidence of game use."
