    Description

1997 Tony Gwynn Silver Bat Award. Gwynn's eighth and final National League Batting Championship, average .372 Gwynn becomes the first National Leaguer since Rogers Hornsby (1920-25) to win four or more batting championships in a row.

    -----

The Tony Gwynn Silver Bat Collection

For two full decades, the face of the San Diego Padres franchise was superstar outfielder Tony Gwynn, the only man in Major League Baseball's top twenty ranking for lifetime batting average whose career began after the Second World War. Only Ty Cobb has led one of the two leagues more often than Gwynn, and the National League batting title was fittingly named for Mr. Padre just this year.

Presented are the gleaming trophies of Gwynn's record eight National League Batting Championships, duplicate models personally ordered from the Hillerich & Bradsby factory by Gwynn for display purposes. They were personally owned by Gwynn and each will be accompanied by a letter of provenance from the Gwynn family.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
