Description

1989 Tony Gwynn Silver Bat Award. This marked the Hall of Fame San Diego Padre's fourth of eight seasons atop the National League batting average chart, and here we find the impressive symbol of his blue ribbon accomplishment. It's a duplicate of the original presented to the master batsman, ordered by and deriving directly from the Gwynn family.

The design is elegant in its simplicity, essentially just a metallic clone of Gwynn's signature model Louisville Slugger, further engraved with the text, "Batting Champion 1989, National League, B.A. .336." Again, we must stress that this is not a Silver Slugger Award, presented to the best batter at each position in the manner of a Gold Glove. This is about recording the best average in the league, thus one of the most prestigious individual awards in the sport. Letter of provenance from Gwynn family.
