1989 Michael Jordan Game Used Signed Bat, MEARS A10. Michael Jordan always had an affinity for baseball. The bond between basketball icon and the sport of baseball reached a crescendo when Jordan retired from the NBA and tried to make it to the big leagues. While his attempt ended in the minors, it did produce a number of game used bats of basketball's top man.

Graded a perfect MEARS A10, and with impeccable provenance, is this thirty-four inch and thirty-one and a half ounce model P72 Louisville Slugger treasure. Jordan gifted this stick to golf buddy John Simkins, and the bat comes with a signed letter from him and 8x10" photo of the two on the links. Heavy ball marks, stitch impressions pepper the back barrel of this uncracked gem. The batting records indicate this bat was ordered by Jordan in 1989. His Airness participated in batting practice sessions with the Sox a time or two. Lifted from the MEARS LOA addendum is this statement, "According to H&B factory records, the single bat produced for Jordan in 1989 was listed as "Baseball Promotions." This same notation appears on the first 6 orders of bats on Jordan's H&B records, from 9/13/89 through 12/6/93." MEARS spoke with Chuck Shuppe, the pro player rep from H&B, and he reiterated that Jordan's first bats were ordered as promotional since he was not professionally playing baseball. There were no signings for him that the bats would have been made for. His first bats were simply recorded as promotional by the bat company. This was most likely used in batting practice or an exhibition game. "45" is written on the knob in silver paint pen. Jordan signed the barrel in 6/10 black sharpie. LOA from MEARS, A10. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph).

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
