The Hall of Fame slugger passes Ted Williams & Willie McCovey!

1987 Mike Schmidt Career Home Runs #522 & #523 Game Used & Signed Bat, PSA/DNA GU 9.5. It was a thrilling year for the reigning National League MVP, who entered the 1987 season just five home runs short of membership in the illustrious 500 Home Run Club. He'd become the fourteenth man in that star-studded clubhouse on April 18th. As the season progressed, he'd climb higher in the rankings, pulling even with Ted Williams and Willie McCovey on August 19th at 521.

This is the signature model Rawlings Adirondack Big Stick 154A that broke that tie nine days later during a visit to San Diego, a fifth inning two-run shot off Padres right-hander Ed Whitson to mark the twenty-seventh homer of Schmidt's 1987 season, and the 512th of his illustrious career. Three days later, after a two-hour drive up the southern California coast, the red-headed slugger would launch number 513 at Dodger Stadium with the same bat, an eighth inning solo shot off 1990 Cy Young winner Bob Welch.

Schmidt wisely made a point of documenting the lumber used as he approached and surpassed the 500 mark, and we see his handwritten "522, 523" in blue marker just above the "Rawlings" center brand. The bat exhibits heavy game use, with ball marks, stitch impresions, cleat divots, rack marks and pine tar on the cracked handle. Once that crack ended the bat's service to its iconic master, Schmidt added a notation above his facsimile barrel signature reading, "Passed Ted Williams, Willie McCovey, 521," later repeating those digits beneath a 10/10 dark blue sharpie signature.

Number "20" appears in vintage marker on the knob, and the bat measures thirty-five inches (35") in length and thirty-one and a half (31.4 oz.) in weight, a perfect match to Schmitty's standard specs. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 9.5.
