1987 Cal Ripken Jr. Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 7. The most familiar stat in the career of Cal Ripken was 162 as just about every year he showed up for work every day of the baseball season. The sporting world's Iron Man helped save baseball during its darkest days as our nation crawled back to the game which seems to grab at our heartstrings every summer. Ripken Jr. brought this very Louisville Slugger model P72 bat to the plate during the '87 campaign. The uncracked bat (35" and 35.6 ounces) shows decent overall use with ball marks centered around the back barrel and a few stitch impressions. Even blue ink transfers are visible throughout.

John Taube's research revealed the following: Cal Ripken Jr.'s factory order record on file at Louisville Slugger Inc., included an order on September 15, 1987 for two 35 inch P72 models with a black finish. The order does not include a weight designation. The order is noted as "Baseball Miscellaneous" in the where the customer name appears. In most instances, we would consider this bat to be a promotional model bat. However, in this case we believe the bats were delivered to Cal Ripken Jr." LOA from PSA/DNA Bats, GU 7.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
