    Description

1984 Tony Gwynn Silver Bat Award. Gwynn's first National League Batting Championship, average .351. This was both Gwynn's first complete Major League season, and his first of five career 200+ hit campaigns.

    -----

The Tony Gwynn Silver Bat Collection

For two full decades, the face of the San Diego Padres franchise was superstar outfielder Tony Gwynn, the only man in Major League Baseball's top twenty ranking for lifetime batting average whose career began after the Second World War. Only Ty Cobb has led one of the two leagues more often than Gwynn, and the National League batting title was fittingly named for Mr. Padre just this year.

Presented are the gleaming trophies of Gwynn's record eight National League Batting Championships, duplicate models personally ordered from the Hillerich & Bradsby factory by Gwynn for display purposes. They were personally owned by Gwynn and each will be accompanied by a letter of provenance from the Gwynn family.
