Description

1980 Mike Schmidt Game Used & Signed Bat, PSA/DNA GU 10--MVP & World Championship Season! There's no greater vintage for this red-headed slugger than the one found in our lot title, a year that saw Schmidt claim two-thirds of the National League Triple Crown, his forty-eight (48) home runs and 121 runs batted in likewise his personal career highs. Schmidt would continue his red-hot pace into the postseason, slugging a dazzling .714 to lead his Phillies to Fall Classic victory over the Kansas City Royals and add a World Championship ring to his mighty 1980 haul.

The offered Louisville Slugger K55 exhibits outstanding use from that season for the ages, replete with ball marks, stitch impressions, cleat marks, two colors of bat rack streaks and a weighted donut impression on the barrel. Handle is cracked and professionally repaired, still wearing a moderate coating of pine tar. We find a block-letter "Schmidt" on the barrel rather than a facsimile signature because the Hall of Fame third baseman was under contract with Adirondack, but a bit of trickery helped Schmidt avoid the consequences of going off-brand. See that band of adhesive staining at upper handle? Schmidt placed red tape there to mimic the appearance of his Big Sticks. His teammate Greg Luzinski used to do the same thing.

The bat is just short of thirty-five and a half inches (35.375") and weighs thirty-four ounces (34.2 oz.). Number "20" appears in vintage red marker on knob. Blue sharpie signature on barrel is 10/10. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 10. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
